We have put together the following bus journey time charts (see below) to display travel times within the countries of Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador and Peru. These charts don't come close to showing all available routes. Neither are they 100% accurate as the routes are constantly being updated and different bus companies can run the same routes in different times. Also in some countries more than others, the buses, road and weather conditions can significantly prolong bus travel times. It is fair to say that out of the 5 countries we have covered, Argentina and Chile boast the best network of bus transport in regards to overall comfort and reliability.

Use the following charts as a guide to help plan your travel and make decisions as to whether you fly or take the bus, but be aware they may be subject to change and delays.

Bus Travel | Getting Around South America

Argentina Bus Times

Chile Bus Times
Bolivia Bus Times
Buses are the most common way to get around South America. Air travel within the continent can be expensive, and nowhere in South America boasts an extensive train network. Long bus trips lasting more than 24 hours are not uncommon and it seems as though top bragging rights will go to the person who has endured the longest bus ride.

However there is a significant difference in the quality of both the roads and the buses between the countries. Also, what may appear on the map to be a relatively short distance, can take hours longer than you expect, due to the quality of the roads or large changes in altitude along the way.
